BWSSB’s ‘Jalapatha’ wins National Geospatial Excellence award

  • Rating12345

BWSSB’s GIS-based platform Jalapatha has won the Geospatial Excellence Award at GeoSmart India-2025. The system digitises Bengaluru’s water and sewerage assets, improving planning and maintenance. Jalapatha will soon expand with advanced analytics and real-time monitoring.

GIS-based water asset management platform recognised at GeoSmart India-2025 for transforming Bengaluru’s utility governance.

The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has earned national recognition after its geospatial utility management system, Jalapatha, won the Geospatial Excellence Award for Water Management at the GeoSmart India-2025 conference in New Delhi. The award was presented during the event’s closing plenary session.

BWSSB Chairman Ram Prasath Manohar received the honour on behalf of the Board. He said the award highlights Bengaluru’s shift toward scientific and technology-driven water governance, at a time when the city’s growing population demands stronger and more efficient utility systems.

Jalapatha, a GIS-based digital platform, brings together thousands of water supply and sewerage assets, such as pipelines, valves, treatment plants, and manholes, into a centralised, real-time mapping system. BWSSB officials say this digital integration has improved planning, monitoring, response time, and maintenance efficiency, especially for a vast and complex water network spread across Bengaluru.

With the award boosting confidence in the project, BWSSB has confirmed that Jalapatha will soon move into its next phase of development. The upcoming upgrade will include advanced geospatial analytics, predictive maintenance tools, and real-time project progress tracking, aimed at further strengthening Bengaluru’s water infrastructure management.
