The Hague, The Netherlands: The World Geospatial Industry Council (WGIC) is pleased to announce the winners of the WGIC DEI Trailblazer Awards 2024. Albert H Anoubon Momo won the Individual Champion Award, while Deepspatial Inc. bagged the award for Corporate Impact. Women+ in Geospatial won the inaugural DEI Advocacy Award.
WGIC’s prestigious awards honor individuals and organizations that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) within the global geospatial industry. Following a rigorous selection process, WGIC is proud to recognize the remarkable achievements of this year’s awardees.
Albert H. Anoubon Momo, Founder of GeoDEV International and former Chair of the Trimble Foundation, has won the WGIC DEI Trailblazer Individual Champion Award for his commitment to DEI practices throughout his career. As Chair of the Trimble Foundation, Momo prioritized DEI as one of the Foundation’s core pillars, overseeing the donation of millions of dollars annually to organizations worldwide that promote DEI. Besides, Momo was the first Chair of the WGIC DEI Committee, spearheading DEI initiatives and leading discussions on DEI themes at major industry events. His tireless advocacy for inclusive practices and policies has left a lasting impact on the geospatial industry, making him a truly deserving recipient of this award.
Deepspatial Inc. has bagged this year’s WGIC DEI Trailblazer Corporate Impact Award for its innovative use of technology in advancing educational equity in India. Deepspatial’s outcome-based geospatial AI technology-driven platform has transformed the educational landscape in the states of Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh, providing personalized learning experiences to over half a million students. Further, the platform’s deployment under the Government of India’s Vidya Samiksha Kendra (VSK) initiative marks a significant achievement in implementing India’s National Education Policy, emphasizing real-time monitoring, comprehensive student-teacher performance analytics, and improved educational outcomes.
Women+ in Geospatial secured the inaugural WGIC DEI Trailblazer – Advocacy Award, introduced to honor organizations/groups making significant strides in DEI advocacy. Founded in 2019, Women+ in Geospatial has built a global network of over 5,500 women and non-binary professionals to promote gender equality and diversity within the geospatial industry. Through mentorship programs, networking opportunities, and career development initiatives, Women+ in Geospatial empowers its members to excel and become strong leaders and changemakers.
