MEDIN Data Discovery Portal Grows

  • Rating12345

New records have been added to the MEDIN Data Discovery Portal since the last edition of Marine Data News now taking the total number of searchable records to over 2300. Latest additions include those added by the British Oceanographic Data Centre covering a range of physical, chemical and biological oceanography. The portal now provides a primary source of discovering existing marine data sets in the UK. From these records it is then possible to access the data directly via a provided web address or contact the originator for access.

The portal is available and can be visited athttp://www.oceannet.org/ under the left hand menu bar ‘data discovery portal’ of the MEDIN home webpage, as well as via a ‘quick link’ on the right hand side. The portal will be upgraded with added functionality in the new year.

Records can be created in the MEDIN metadata format using the MEDIN online metadata tool (aka ‘Discovery metadata editor’ athttp://www.dassh.ac.uk/medin_metadata/login) which automatically assists with and guides you through production of the record and outputs MEDIN compliant XML files. The XML files can either be directly uploaded to the portal or can be sent to the relevant DAC who will upload the record to the portal and archive the data.
