GSDI 15 World Conference: New Keynote Speakers Added

  • Rating12345

Mark your calendars! Join us November 29 to December 2 in Taipei, Taiwan as we welcome two additional keynote speakers. Their talks are sure to be highlights of the 15th Global Spatial Data Infrastructure World Conference (GSDI 15, http://gsdi15.org.tw/). Prof. Dr. Dewayany Sutrisno and Dr. Vernon Singhroy now have been confirmed to share their insights on the challenges and innovations related to increasing access to and use of geospatial data, focusing on the conference theme of Spatial Enablement in the Smart Homeland. Both speakers strive to improve the interface between spatial analysis and public sector policy, planning, and management.

Prof. Dr.Dewayany Sutrisno

Prof. Dr.  Dewayany Sutrisno is a Senior Research Professor in spatial information systems at the Geomatics Research Center of the Indonesian Geospatial Information agency (BIG). She also gives lectures in spatial planning at Bogor Agricultural University. She studied remote sensing at the University of New South Wales, Australia, and then received a doctorate in coastal and marine management, with a strong emphasis on remote sensing, GIS, and spatial environmental modeling. Currently, she is the president of the Indonesian Society for Remote Sensing (ISRS/MAPIN) and a representative of ordinary members in the Asian Association on Remote Sensing (AARS).

Due to  Prof. Dr.  Dewayany’s expertise in spatial information systems, she has led the team to develop, with a dynamic modeling approach, geospatial decision support system (GDSS) tools to overcome issues regarding spatial and environmental planning. An online analytical process tool, which is to be part of the national SDI, has been researched to support decision makers for sustainable spatial management. Climate change policy modeling also is part of her interest, especially its impact on coastal and marine resources, for which she has written a book and articles. As part of the effort to connect geospatial information via the national geoportal, she joins the technical commission for determining national standards for geospatial data, including those involving remote sensing.

Dr.Vernon Singhroy

Dr. Vern Singhroy is the chief scientist of the Canadian Space Agency RADARSAT Constellation Mission (2018). As a senior research scientist at the Canada Centre for Remote Sensing, he is internationally recognized as a world leader on the uses remote sensing images for Geohazard, Geological and Geoengineering applications. Dr. Singhroy received his Ph.D. in environmental and resource engineering from the State University of New York, Syracuse and is a professional engineer in Ontario, Canada. He has published over 300 papers in scientific journals, proceedings, and books. He is also the co-editor of four books, including of the Encyclopedia of Remote Sensing, and was the editor-in-chief of the Canadian Journal of Remote Sensing. He is a Professor of Earth Observation at the International Space University in Strasbourg, France, since 1998 and an adjunct professor in Planetary and Space Sciences at the University of New Brunswick in Canada.

Dr. Singhroy has also taken on advisory roles related to management of science in government, mentoring of younger scientists, and providing strategic advice. He received the prestigious Gold Medal Award from the Canadian Remote Sensing Society and the (2012) Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal for his contribution to Canadian and International Remote Sensing.
