  • Rating12345

December 8, 2015 — An early pioneer of web mapping solutions for professionals has been elected to the ruling council of the UK’s geographic information industry body.

James Cutler, Chief Executive of award-winning data services provider emapsite, will take up his seat on the AGI Council in January 2016.

Since co-founding the dot com start-up with Justin Saunders in 2000, James has steered emapsite’s growth as an essential point of entry to geodata and solutions for customers in a range of sectors.

Successes include the market take-up of emapsite’s MapShop and Contractor Link services, the development of OGC-compliant web mapping, ISO certification and supplying the UK government’s G-Cloud procurement datastore.

James said: “It is a great privilege and honour to join such a highly respected and influential body as the AGI Council.  I aim to make a positive and meaningful contribution. There is much we can do for our members and the wider GI industry through lobbying, enlightened advocacy and thought leadership.”

The AGI Council is elected by the AGI Membership and meets at least five times a year. Meetings cover the business of the AGI, updates from AGI Groups and wider industry issues.

David Henderson, AGI Chair, said: “James is a well-known and much respected figure in our industry and we are thrilled to welcome him on board as an active Council member.”
