Bluesky Signs Aerial Mapping Contract with Ordnance Survey Ireland

  • Rating12345

Leicestershire, UK, June 15, 2015 —  Aerial mapping company Bluesky has signed up Ireland’s National Mapping Agency as an exclusive reseller for the public sector market.

The agreement between Bluesky and Ordnance Survey Ireland covers the provision of the highest resolution, most up to date aerial photography for the Republic of Ireland, together with associated 3D height products. Under the terms of the agreement Ordnance Survey Ireland, with support from Bluesky, will exclusively licence Bluesky’s Ireland products to public sector organisations such as local councils, central government departments and executive agencies.

The agreement between Bluesky and Ordnance Survey Ireland comes at the start of the 2015 flying season which has already seen a large area in the south of the country captured. Bluesky has committed to capturing 70,000 square kilometres of brand new aerial photography as well as colour infrared (CIR) imagery.  Bluesky will also create 3D maps providing accurate elevations of land and buildings for the Republic of Ireland.

“We are delighted to be working with Ordnance Survey Ireland to ensure public sector organisations throughout the Republic have access to the most up to date, highest resolution aerial photography available,” says Robert Loughran, International Sales Manager at Bluesky International. “Ordnance Survey Ireland has an unrivalled knowledge and experience of the Irish Geospatial industry and is therefore ideally positioned to market, support and facilitate the take up of both the aerial photography and innovative elevation products within this sector.”

“Bluesky has committed to capturing and creating aerial photography and height data of the Republic of Ireland and OSi is pleased to be able to support them with the roll out of these products to public sector end users,” adds Hugh Mangan, General Manager Business and Marketing at Ordnance Survey Ireland. “There is an increasing demand for such products across the public sector in support of social, economic and legislative decision making and by working with Bluesky we can help meet this demand.”

Bluesky will capture high resolution, leaf on, aerial photography and colour infrared imagery for the whole of The Republic of Ireland starting from Spring 2015.  Products from the Bluesky data capture will include 25 cm resolution coverage for the whole country with 12.5 cm resolution data for selected urban areas including Dublin, Cork, Limerick, Galway, Waterford, Drogheda, Dundalk and Wexford.

In addition to the aerial photography and CIR imagery, national Digital Terrain and Surface Models (DTM / DSM) will be created. The first datasets, available in a variety of GIS ready formats as well as online at Bluesky’s Mapshop, are expected to be launched to market in the third quarter of 2015.
