Automated Target Classification and the Latest Optech Airborne Sensors at ASPRS 2015

  • Rating12345

April 27, 2015 — Optech is pleased to announce that it will showcase the latest and most innovative remote sensing solutions at the ASPRS 2015 Annual Conference, the Imaging & Geospatial Technology Forum (IGTF), on May 6-7 in Tampa, FL, USA. The forum will also host a presentation on multispectral lidar technology and the exciting possibilities it opens up for automated land classification.

The exhibit hall will feature Optech’s airborne mappers, and visitors to the Optech booth can find out which combination of Optech lidars and/or cameras will fit their specific application requirements. The lightweight Optech Galaxy improves productivity and reduces costs for commercial surveyors with its PulseTRAK™ technology, which lets operators fly through multipulse zones without worrying about data gaps, and maintains steady point density even in mountainous terrain. Surveyors interested in wide-area mapping can see how the dual-channel Optech Pegasus achieves high point density even when operating at high altitudes. Finally, the Optech Titan is opening up brand-new application spaces for lidar with its multispectral technology, including automated target classification and joint bathymetry/topography mapping, enabling surveyors to accomplish more projects with a single sensor than ever before. Attendees can learn more about these systems and Optech’s other lidar and imaging solutions at Booth 513 in the exhibit hall.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ahmed Shaker of Ryerson University will give a presentation titled “Multi-wavelength LiDAR Data: Potentials of the New Technology in Land Cover Classification”, based on data collected by the Optech Titan. Dr. Shaker’s presentation will describe his initial work with this ground-breaking multispectral system and explain how he achieved an 80% classification accuracy rate using lidar data alone, without any passive imaging at all. Dr. Shaker will describe many of the techniques and considerations used to take advantage of multispectral lidar, so attendees interested in learning more about this critical new technology can listen in during the Emerging 3D Technologies (5H) session at 3:30-5:00 pm on Thursday, May 7.
