AXIS GeoSpatial LLC Purchases the Leica Nova MS50 Solution

  • Rating12345

April 27, 2015 — AXIS GeoSpatial LLC recently purchased the Leica Nova MS50, a robotic total station and high precision/long range terrestrial laser scanner in one unit. The capability to remotely capture detailed, complicated structures and objects in 3D with great accuracy, to acquire large data sets in a short period of time, means AXIS will continue providing accurate georeferenced survey grade data to clients.

With similar data output as AXIS Airborne LiDAR sensor, this total solution can be fused with airborne LiDAR data to fill in voids in existing data sets, whether that is scanning under bridges or overpasses, obtaining check topo in obscured areas, acquiring QA check shots in wooded or vegetated areas, or efficiently extending control into areas not observable with our GNSS systems.

Given the ever increasing trend toward 3D planning & design, visualization and maintaining survey data with this solution allows for conventional land surveys, such as boundary, topographic and construction stakeout surveys, as well as small to medium size laser scanning projects that require either high precision measurements, or longer range measurements than most other systems are capable of, since it can scan at relatively high speeds out to 1000 feet, and achieve reflector-less (no prism) measurements in excess of 7000 feet. Its combination of accuracy, precision and range are pretty unique for a laser scanner and absolutely unique when you consider the robotic instrument capability. The instrument also brings terrestrial photogrammetry to the table, which adds the ability to verify data, review content and augment the documentation of projects.

“This instrument allows us to undertake almost any precision positioning project, including all types of conventional surveying, as well as structural and architectural as-builts, deformation monitoring, concrete surface testing, clash detection, BIM and high precision control surveys to support almost any application imaginable”, says William T. Derry, Prof LS Director of Surveying Technologies for AXIS.

Founded in 2001, AXIS GeoSpatial LLC is a full service land surveying, mapping and GIS firm employing innovative remote-sensing and measurement technologies to capture geospatial data for integration into civil engineering, land surveying and GIS applications. AXIS is headquartered in Easton, Maryland with additional locations in CO, DE & NJ. During the past 14 years, AXIS has applied extensive, proven experience in producing high quality aerial imagery, LiDAR, CADD, GIS and other related geospatial datasets for civil engineering and government clients throughout the US and abroad.
