NAVTEQ is supplying the map data and additional content such as 3D Landmarks to power the NDrive navigation application for smartphones which has recently been launched in Russia. Drivers can now take advantage of a package which includes maps for Russia plus Western and Central Europe as well as a range of advanced navigation features. NAVTEQ map coverage of Russia is growing fast with new roads, towns and villages and content added to every quarterly update. For example, around 100 3D Landmarks – photorealistic models of prominent buildings – in 11 key cities help orientation in unfamiliar situations. There are also now over 280,000 Points of Interest in 70 different categories from fuel stations to pharmacies, hotels, restaurants and hospitals. “With top quality NAVTEQ maps on board, our navigation apps offer an extensive range of POIs and help drivers navigate just like a local,” commented Alexandre Magalhães, NDrive Chief Marketing Officer.
“The launch of this new navigation app is the result of close co-operation between NDrive and NAVTEQ and demonstrates how committed both companies are to this region.” added Yiannis Moissidis, vice president, NAVTEQ Sales, Middle-East, Africa, Russia & Balkans. “Our rapidly expanding presence throughout Russia enabled us to provide NDrive with high quality navigable maps and content as well as effective local business support to help bring this new product to the market.”
