URISA Engages Young GIS Practitioners with the Vanguard Cabinet

  • Rating12345

URISA is pleased to open up the 2014 Vanguard Cabinet application process. The Vanguard Cabinet (VC) is a URISA initiative which debuted in 2011 to engage young GIS practitioners (35 and under), increase their numbers in the organization, and better understand the concerns facing these future leaders of the GIS community.  The Cabinet’s mission is to collaborate with URISA’s Board of Directors and Committees in creating and promoting programs and policies of benefit to young professionals. Comprised entirely of passionate young members selected from different geospatial disciplines, the Cabinet aims to position URISA as the center of opportunities for creative young professionals who are committed to improving URISA and the geospatial profession via innovation, collaboration, networking, and professional development.

Clare Brown, advisor to the Vanguard Cabinet, notes, “The contributions and commitment of VC members have exceeded our wildest expectations. They are leading programs and have positively impacted URISA in so many ways. In fact, a VC member from the first class was already elected to the URISA International Board of Directors.”

Current Vanguard members will host an informational webinar on Friday, November 22 at 12:00 Noon Eastern time and a Google Hangout on Thursday, November 21 at 7:00 PM Eastern to describe VC activities and the level of commitment required.

Visit the VC web page for the 2014 application form (due by December 2) and additional information.
