Blue Marble Geographics is pleased to announce a new series of webinars that will demonstrate how Global Mapper applies to specific industries and business types.  To kick off the free webinar series, Blue Marble is offering a webinar entitled, Accessible GIS for Municipal and Local Government , on Thursday, July 25th, 2013.  Blue Marble’s geospatial data manipulation, visualization and conversion solutions are used worldwide by thousands of GIS analysts at software, oil and gas, mining, civil engineering, surveying, and technology companies, as well as governmental and university organizations.

For over a decade, Global Mapper has built a well-deserved reputation as a flexible and easy-to-use GIS data processing and management tool, garnering an extensive following in a wide variety of fields and disciplines. As a low-cost alternative to traditional GIS software, it provides an appropriate level of GIS functionality for both trained professionals and GIS novices. The goal of this webinar series is to explore some of these distinctive applications and to demonstrate the appropriate features and functions within the software.

Small towns and local government departments have long recognized the benefits of a well-organized Geographic Information System. However, for many, GIS technology is often considered beyond their reach. Burdened by financial constraints and limited technical resources, many municipalities are resigned to forego the implementation of a GIS or to outsource this aspect of their operations, which ultimately costs more and delivers less. For a fraction of the cost of traditional GIS software, Global Mapper provides the easy-to-use tools that enable municipalities of every size to be self-sufficient in the management of their GIS data and, through increased efficiency, see a rapid return on investment.

“We are very excited to be delivering this webinar,” said David McKittrick, Senior Applications Specialist at Blue Marble. “Having heard from many public officials about how Global Mapper has enabled them to develop a sustainable GIS in their community, we are happy to be able to share some of their experiences with our wider audience.”

In the Accessible GIS for Municipal and Local Government webinar, Blue Marble will demonstrate how Global Mapper can be employed to set up and manage a municipal GIS. Topics will include finding and importing pre-existing datasets, including imagery and elevation data, as well as creating and managing a property or parcel dataset. The webinar will cover how to use field-collected data to create spatial data layers, such as public works assets, and how to create buffers around environmentally sensitive areas to help enforce building regulations.
