Esri’s New Video Highlights Forestry among the Many Occupations that Use GIS Technology

  • Rating12345

The latest addition to the Esri education community’s GIS Careers Video series features GIS analyst and forester Chris Ferner. The video highlights Ferner’s work as she discusses the benefits of using GIS and related technologies in her position with the Colorado State Forest Service.

Ferner’s interest in the outdoors began as a child when she accompanied her biologist father on some of his field trips.  With her degrees in biology and forestry and a keen interest in GIS and the environment, she has had great opportunities to apply her skills as an employee at the US Department of Agriculture, US Forest Service, US Parks Service, and Bureau of Land Management.

Other occupations using GIS that are highlighted in the series include health geographer, helicopter pilot–firefighter, conservationist, and GIS manager.
