The debate in Germany over a motorway vignette has flared up again, because currently some € 47 billion of the costs caused by car traffic are not covered by paid taxes and charges. UBA proposes that a distance-based car toll covering the entire German road network be introduced instead of a vignette. A car toll would be just as effective in closing the financial gap but would be better at encouraging environmentally friendly mobility and provide a fairer distribution of the costs. Read More
