Bentley Leads the Way to Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Participation

  • Rating12345

Be Together: The Bentley User Conference – May 25, 2011 – Bentley Systems, Incorporated, the leading company dedicated to providing comprehensive software solutions for sustaining infrastructure, today announced at this annual gathering of infrastructure professionals innovative additions and enhancements to its growing line of geotechnical and geoenvironmental products for sustaining infrastructure.

With the release of its new GeoStructural offerings, Bentley brings a new category of software tools to surface and subsurface project work. The new software paves the way for the inclusion of geotechnical and geoenvironmental considerations in integrated project workflows and decision making – an advancement due given the crucial importance of subsurface conditions to the sustainability of all infrastructure. Bentley also announced innovative enhancements to its gINT software for subsurface projects that affords gINT users the “V8i advantage,” including geospatial context for geotechnical data management within ProjectWise. The V8i advantage enables Bentley and its users to work smarter together by providing intuitive modeling, immersive design, intrinsic 3D, and incredible performance, along with interoperability that supports software choice, data reuse, and Bentley’s commitment to compatibility across all of its multidisciplinary applications.

GeoStructural Analysis and Advanced GeoStructural Analysis

“Bentley is extending its offerings into the environmental disciplines with the introduction of its new category of software that addresses the needs of geostructural engineering,” said Salvatore Caronna, Bentley’s newly appointed solutions executive for Environmental Engineering. “Geostructural engineering applies geotechnical data to the design and analysis of surface and subsurface structures. Bentley’s new GeoStructural software provides our users with a complete set of robust applications that empower them to include geotechnical information in the design and analysis of applicable structures – everything from piles and footings to walls and tunnels.”

Bentley’s GeoStructural Analysis and Advanced GeoStructural Analysis products provide interchangeable data for the lifecycle of infrastructure. Their comprehensive scope includes capabilities for the design and analysis of walls, slope stability, sheeting, piling, footings, abutments, soil pressures, settlement, as well as finite element analysis and tunneling and ground analysis. The products are available to infrastructure organizations and professionals through Bentley’s Passport Subscriptions and other innovative subscription offerings, and can also be acquired as perpetual licenses.

GeoStructural Analysis includes the following modules: Cantilever Wall, Gabion Wall, Gravity Wall, Masonry Wall, Prefab Wall, Nailed Slopes, Sheeting Design, Sheeting Check, Slope Stability, Spread Footing, Abutment, Earth Pressures, Micropile, Pile CPT, Piles, Rock Stability, Settlement, and DXF Export. Bentley’s Advanced GeoStructural Analysis offering adds FEM, Tunnel, and Ground Loss modules.

gINT V8i

Commenting on Bentley’s newly released gINT V8i, Mark Bevan, senior data management consultant, Structural Soils Ltd, Bristol, U.K., and an early adopter of gINT V8i, said, “gINT V8i continues the proud tradition of keeping Bentley’s gINT applications at the forefront of software provision in the geotechnical and geoenvironmental industry. The V8i feature list is impressive and well thought out, and our rigorous testing showed the software delivers what it promises. Bentley has listened to its users and targeted the right areas for development to address their needs. gINT just got even better!”

gINT V8i geotechnical software is fully compatible with Bentley’s MicroStation V8i desktop platform for information modeling and documentation and its ProjectWise V8i project team collaboration platform. This greatly increases data interoperability across multiple disciplines and leads to more streamlined and efficient collaborative workflows that now can include the project contributions of geotechnical specialists.

gINT V8i shares with other Bentley V8i applications intrinsic geo-coordination, which enables gINT to combine data from disparate coordinate systems and better interoperate with Bentley GIS and civil engineering applications. For the first time, geotechnical information such as boreholes can be encapsulated through callouts within the geospatial context provided by ProjectWise, leading to improvement in project quality. “These enhancements ensure coordinate and data accuracy, improve practitioner performance, and save significant time and money,” said Ron Gant, Bentley global marketing director. “They also increase data reliability through collaboration, reducing errors and redundant data entry.”

gINT V8i includes Enhanced Compressed Wavelet (ECW) support to further improve performance when combining geotechnical data with raster images. It also includes support for the latest AGS4 standard from the U.K. Association of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Specialists. “This guarantees engineers the ability to comply with the latest industry standards specified by one of the world’s leading geotechnical societies,” said Gant.
