The Geoinformatics Forum Salzburg (GI_Forum) is scheduled for July 5-8, 2011, at the University of Salzburg, Austria. Audience. GI_Forum focuses on an international audience that shares an interest in GIScience and Technology. This Call for Papers aims at researchers who design, develop and apply advanced methods and techniques of Geoinformatics to a broad range of application domains.
Themes & Application Fields. GI_Forum solicits contributions on emerging topics and research outcomes related to GIScience and Technology. Advanced visualisation and cartography, geospatial data acquisition, advanced spatial analysis and knowledge extraction, distributed and mobile services, SDI, and dynamic modelling and simulation comprise by no means an exhaustive list of conference topics. In addition GI_Forum welcomes submissions addressing the following issues:
- Learning with Geoinformation
We encourage contributions discussing various issues related to Geoinformation in Education. In 2011 a special focus is put on the implementation of the ‘Spatial Citizenship’ concept. Under the umbrella of the digital:earth:eu network further emphasis is put on networking initiatives for the inclusion of GI in education. The conference Learning with Geoinformation will host such contributions in sessions partially shared with GI_Forum. Please refer to the separate Call for Papers (www.gi-forum.org/learning). Accepted contributions will be published in separate proceedings in co-operation with digital:earth:eu.
- Climate Change and Spatial Vulnerability Assessment (Monday July 4, lunchtime – Wednesday July 6, lunchtime)
This workshop is organised by the United Nations University – Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) and the Centre for Geoinformatics, University of Salzburg (Z_GIS) as a follow-up of the GI_Forum 2010 special workshop on ‘Vulnerability: Spatial Assessment and Analysis’. The event in 2011 will be attended by experts from the climate change adaptation field (e.g. IPCC lead authors for the AR5) and from the Disaster Risk Reduction Community. The outcomes of the workshop will feed into both discourses: climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction. Strengthening the cooperation and synergies between both schools is a goal of the workshop.
We invite paper and poster submissions on case studies, concepts and methodologies that will contribute to the workshop discussions. Check www.gi-forum.org/spatialvulnerability for details.
- Global and Climate Change: Monitoring and Modelling
“Global change” – a short formula for a multitude of anticipated shifts in societal and environmental domains in respond to strong global drivers such as climate change – calls for spatial monitoring and modelling techniques to better understand the implications and potential dynamics of such changes. International programmes and visions (GEO, GMES, SEIS, …) envisage unified systems based on quality standards for data, products and services to establish optimized observation and forecasting capacity within Europe, and also globally. We especially welcome papers that demonstrate best practices and experiences in dealing with climate change effects.
Submission: Types & Deadlines. GI_Forum 2011 gives authors choices about the type of submission they want to make in order to accommodate a variety of interdisciplinary contributions. Submissions are expected in English language according to the formatting guidelines published at the conference website.
- February 1, 2011 deadline for submission of
full papers for oral presentation and publication in the conference proceedings;
and extended abstracts for discussion sessions
- June 6, 2011 late deadline for submission of
extended abstracts for poster presentation
We will accept online submissions only, starting from December 1, 2010 at www.gi-forum.org/ -> Contribution Registration.
