Is your GIS ready for Gov 2.0? That’s the question Esri Australia is asking in a benchmark study into the GIS habits of local governments. All local governments are invited to participate in the study, which examines how Councils are using or would like to be using GIS to make Gov 2.0 a reality.
GIS is increasingly being used as a platform to build mapping applications which engage the public, deliver transparency, simplify information and enhance policymaking. But what do you really think about the Gov 2.0 concept and what role do you see GIS playing?
“Local governments all over the world are embracing online GIS as a powerful framework to share data with the public, and receive data back from the public,” says Megan Hughes, the Business Development Manager for Local Government in New South Wales.
“Gov 2.0 is still new to Australasian governments – but it seems to be an inevitable part of their future. This is why the benchmark study is so important. It will be a useful platform to learn where our governments are at in adopting the principle, and the role GIS is playing. For participants, it will provide insight into how other local councils are adopting Gov 2.0, so they can see how their council compares to other like councils.”
So the question remains – is your GIS ready for Gov 2.0? Are you making the most of location and GIS in the Gov 2.0 space? Can you leverage GIS more to help your local government become Gov 2.0 savvy?
The benchmark study takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Participants in the study gain access to exclusive study results and insight into how other local councils are adopting Gov 2.0. You also have the chance to win an iPad with Wi-Fi + 3G (32 GB).
