New ESRI Press Book Illustrates how GIS Helps to Manage the Environment

Case studies in ESRI Press’s new book GIS for Environmental Management detail how biologists, ecologists, and other scientists around the world use geographic information systems (GIS) to preserve important ecosystems. The book by Robert Scally illustrates the many innovative uses of GIS in a dozen projects, ranging from protecting Madagascar’s national parks to tracking environmental contamination from the World Trade Center’s collapse. Other case studies show how GIS was used to assess the health of wetlands along Lake Ontario’s shore and identify the sources of a dust problem in the border towns of Douglas, Arizona, and Auga Prieta, Mexico.
