1Spatial Explores Automated Generalisation in Geospatial Data

  • Rating12345

1Spatial, Gold Sponsors and exhibitors at GIS Ireland will be exploring some of the key issues around specific digital landscape models (DLM), digital cartographic models (DCM) and how the company is providing the industry with an innovative solution at the conference this month. The presentation entitled ?Automated Generalisation: The Holy Grail for NMCAs will be given by Nicolas Regnauld, Product Manager at 2.20pm. 1Spatial is also sponsoring the Innovation and Best Practice Award.

The process of deriving appropriate lower resolution and smaller scale products from a single high resolution data source has long been the aim of National Mapping and Charting Agencies. Up until now the process has typically involved very labour intensive processes with a strong emphasis on interpretation methodologies and on ?cartographers licence? to produce products that delivered the required information.  The implementation of an automated process that delivers a solution via continuous generation of up-to-date resolution specific digital landscape models (DLM) and style specific digital cartographic models (DCM) has been described by one NMCA Director as ?the Holy Grail for NMCAs.

1Spatial has extensive experience in the implementation of automated generalisation solutions in a number of National Mapping and Charting Agencies such as Ordnance Survey Great Britain, IGN France, GTS in Denmark, and AdV in Germany.

These solutions use 1Spatial technology, where geographic features are modelled as agents controlled by constraints. An optimisation engine is in charge of maximising the global satisfaction of the agents in the system, together with a framework for authoring and running rules to detect and react to specific conditions in the data. Both technologies provide access to a powerful common object database with explicit topology management.

With the recent launch of 1Spatial Management Suite these component technologies are now being refactored and rebranded as part of the 1SMS platform  to deliver a highly configurable data product generation solution for National Mapping and Charting Agencies and other data publishers. Visitors to GIS Ireland will be able to visit 1Spatial and see a demonstration of the 1SMS platform.

1SMS links together 1Spatial?s powerful and scalable product portfolio, enabling users to rapidly respond to real-time scenarios and ensure their data is always current, accurate and trustworthy.  It allows users to increase productivity and reduce operational costs and risks by adopting an automated approach to data management. The suite is underpinned by enterprise database and Service Oriented Architecture technology from industry leaders including Oracle.
