Community Mapping Leader Hurricane Coast Joins Depiction, Inc. as VP of Sales and Marketing

Hurricane Coast, a leader in the field of community mapping, has been appointed to the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing of Depiction, Inc., makers of Depiction mapping, simulation and collaboration software, the company announced today.

Previously the program manager of the Open Initiative at MapQuest, Coast has served as Community Ambassador at Cloudmade, and is currently a member of the OpenStreetMap foundation and the State of the Map 2011 organizing committee. She has been a contributor to OpenStreetMap since 2008.

“We’re delighted that Hurricane, a key figure in the mapping community, is going to be joining us on the Depiction journey,” said Mike Geertsen, Depiction, Inc. founder and board chairman. “And with her extensive background in both open mapping and sales and marketing, she’s an ideal fit for Depiction’s needs going forward.”

"I'm thrilled to join the team at Depiction. Depiction has so much to offer the mapping industry—from emergency preparedness to city planning and event simulations,” said Coast. “I am keen to take on this role and engage a broader audience with this technology.”

“Depiction leverages OpenStreetMap maps and data to give regular people mapping capabilities they have never had before,” noted Depiction, Inc. CEO Richard Smith. “Both OpenStreetMap and Depiction are driven by the desire to give everyday people powerful tools for understanding the world around them, so it makes sense for us to bring someone onboard from the OSM community.”
