Scientists are developing a new internet search engine which will use information from sensors in the real world to deliver results. Computer scientists at the University of Glasgow are taking part in the European-funded project, known as SMART, for a “search engine for multimedia environment generated content”. Some of us never outgrow that desire to seek out and explore ancient ruins. And, as it turns out, much of the ancient world remains unexplored and undiscovered. I am a “space archaeologist,” a new subfield of archaeology where satellite imagery is used to map and locate ancient archaeological sites and features across the globe.
