R.A. Smith National (formerly R.A. Smith & Associates and its National Survey & Engineering Division) — civil engineering, planning, surveying, landscape architecture, GIS and 3D visualization consultants — Brookfield, Wis., is providing geographic information systems (GIS) services to Cherokee County, Georgia, for the development of a land use geodatabase to enhance the County’s planning efforts.
The project will transform data from the County’s property assessment and business permit databases into a consistent land use geodatabase based on the Land Based Classification Standard (LBCS) from the American Planning Association. A detailed process will be developed that outlines the methodology of transforming the data from the property assessment and business permit databases and loading it into the land use geodatabase. Once completed, the geodatabase will enable the County to better understand how land is being used and will assist in future planning and zoning efforts.
