New Digital Atlas of Sustainability Indicators for Coastal Municipalities

PR – The Virtual Institute to the Sustainable Development (IVIDES.org), from Brazil, launched the product of a research with 41 sustainability indicators
for 34 coastal municipalities of the state of Rio de Janeiro. The
product of research, called as "Atlas of Sustainability Indicators for
Coastal Municipalities of the State of Rio de Janeiro", distributed
through the license Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial 2.5
Brazil, is being widely divulged for visitors and already receives
support from diverse citizens, not only of the Rio de Janeiro, as well
as of other coastal states of Brazil and of internacional community.

With the increase of the notion of urgency in the treatment of
ambiental subjects observed in recent years, the research consists in
important story and contributes for the perfectioning of the public
politics. The methodology already is being reproduced for students of
universities of the brazilian states of São Paulo and Santa Catarina,
what demonstrates its applicability and utility in any coastal state.
The researchers contribute to the ample dissemination of the work, to
create a community of researchers and students interested effectively
for its subject.

All treatment of the data was released using PHP programming. The
GD Library was basic for the generation of the maps. The database was
conceived with MySQL and the scripts run at an Apache2 Web Server. All
source codes and documentation of the project is being prepared to be
