Less Oil Spills Observed by Flight Surveillance

PR – The Finnish authorities observed in 2008 in the Gulf of Finland, the
Gulf of Bothnia and the northern Baltic Sea 112 oil spills in all, of
which 96 were located within the Finnish economic zone.
A significant
change compared with the previous years was the considerable increase
of the number of oil spill reports from private persons – six times
more than before. Reports from citizens are a welcome complement to the
observations made by authorities. It is important that authorities get
informed about suspected oil spills whenever it is possible.    Read More
