PR – “Lessons to be learned after the Land&Infrastructure and Maritime Surveillance related demos”. The Workshop will take place in Paris on 26 March 2009. It aims to present the results of the first development cycle of the LIMES project mainly to Users and Stakeholder not directly involved into the LIMES Services Demonstration performed last year.

Since December 2006, LIMES project (Land and Sea Integrated Monitoring for European Security) has developed security applications and services based on Earth Observation systems, satellite communications and positioning technologies.

Land and Infrastructure Surveillance Services envision the monitoring of national borders and critical infrastructures, the support to large event planning and to non-proliferation treaties monitoring. The services are developed on the capacity of Very High Resolution satellites, used in conjunction with medium to high resolution data and aerial imagery, to enable spatial analysis for assessing risks, improving security and enhancing preparedness. Test areas were chosen in Eastern EU land borders, Spain, Finland and Peru.

Maritime Surveillance Services were developed with the objective of improving the monitoring of both vessel and cargo movements for reasons of maritime safety, policing and border security both over coastal and open ocean areas.
