DMTI Spatial Promotes Kara John to Vice President, Intellectual Property and Privacy

PR – DMTI Spatial (DMTI), a leading provider of Location Intelligence, has
announced the appointment of Kara John to Vice President, Intellectual
Property and Privacy.
As a member of DMTI’s senior management team, Ms.
John is responsible for the development, negotiation and management of
all licensing agreements on behalf of the company. She is also in
charge of the development of, and adherence to, information management
policies that ensure the company’s compliance with privacy legislation.
Prior to her new appointment, Ms. John was Director, Strategic
Initiatives where she pioneered special projects and partnerships on
behalf of DMTI.

Ms. John has been involved at the national and international levels
in the development of standards and policies to support the geospatial
industry for many years. She is currently part of a working group with
the strategic mandate to define national level policy for the licensing
of location intelligence data. An active participant on the
GeoConnections Policy Working Group, Ms. John provides advice and
counsel in regards to the geospatial industry and is in the process of
writing a best practices guide for the distribution and licensing of
data throughout Canada. In addition, her role with the National Privacy
Working Group enables her to bring to the forefront issues surrounding
location intelligence and the potential impact they may have on
consumer privacy.

role will make extensive use of her proven ability to negotiate win-win
solutions that fulfill our customer’s needs while at the same time
balancing the protection of privacy, security and the company’s IP,
which are critical elements contributing to the company’s strong and
rapid growth." said Glenor Pitters, Chief Quality Officer of DMTI
Spatial.

Ms. John holds a BA in International Development from Clark
University and a Masters in International Affairs from Boston
University. She is a member of the Licensing Executive Society (LES)
for both Canada and the United States and a member of the Intelligent
Transportation Society of Canada (ITS Canada).
