Chile Launches National Environmental Enforcement Network

Chile’s Environmental Superintendent, Cristian Franz, last week announced the launch of the National Environmental Enforcement Network (RENFA). The new network, comprising 16 agencies with environmental responsibilities under the Superintendent, will increase the number of environmental inspectors in the country from the current 100 to 600. It will also coordinate the work of the country’s various regulatory agencies, standardize procedures for oversight and environmental compliance, provide professional development opportunities for water sector personnel and develop tools for environmental monitoring projects, among other things.
