PERSPECTIVES

"What is the Role of the Digital Terrain Model (DTM) Today?"

Vector One —" DTM are integral pieces to the building of infrastructure, managing it and communicating about our world. Without a surface, there are only objects in space - little to reference anything. It is the DTM that actually makes 3D happen - in the real world."

Spatial Sustain —"A digital elevation model (DEM) represents the elevation of Earth's surface, including features (vegetation, buildings, etc.). A digital terrain model (DTM) provides a bare earth representation of terrain or surface topography. Both are highly useful data sets for visualizing our planet for scientific and commercial landscape study."

Imagery Provides Compelling Evidence of Human Rights Violations
Amnesty International recently launched Eyes on Darfur, an innovative and powerful website utilizing photographs and high-resolution satellite imagery to communicate the crisis in the Darfur region of Sudan. The satellite images track human rights violations before and after reported attacks, highlighting changes in homes and vegetation in villages throughout the region.

NERVE: Innovative Technology to Address Tomorrow's Needs
For many years individual regional organisations have independently created and maintained models of their areas of responsibility in order to support their core activities. Over 90% of data for organisations such as utilities, local government, emergency services and other regional agencies relates to a spatial location, and geographic information systems are now becoming central to most IT infrastructures.
