National Assessment Shows Geographic Distributions and Trends of Pesticide Use, 1992-2009

For the first time, national maps and trend graphs show the distribution of the agricultural use of 459 pesticides for each year during 1992-2009 for the entire conterminous U.S.  The maps and supporting national database of county-level use estimates for each pesticide were developed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) for use in national and regional water-quality assessments.

RapidEye Kicks off 2013 North American Agricultural Imaging Campaign

RapidEye, a leader in high-resolution, wide area repetitive coverage of earth through its constellation of five satellites, announced today that its 2013 North American Ag Imaging Campaign will begin May 15th. This is the second year for the campaign, which will task 2.9 million square kilometers covering most major agricultural areas in the US, including the ‘corn belt’, and Canada. The entire campaign, which runs through September 15th, will cover these areas once each month, producing over 11.5 million square kilometers of imagery for agricultural monitoring.

Conservation Stewardship Program Funding Available

The Natural Resources Conservation Service's Conservation Stewardship Program will provide $175 in funding for up to 12.6 million additional acres of enrollment, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack announced Wednesday. The CSP offers producers payments in return for maintaining a high level of conservation on their land and who agree to adopt higher levels of stewardship. Improvements to meet requirements can include intensive rotational grazing, intercropping and wildlife friendly fencing. Read More
