As the world continues down the path of unmitigated and unsustainable development, it is becoming increasingly clear that we have successfully pushed ourselves out of the stable geological era of the Holocene and into the more volatile and unpredictable Anthropocene. Nevertheless, many remain blissfully unaware of this truth due to the fact that ecosystem thresholds are not always marked with warning signs of impending danger. Unfortunately, this means that we may actually pass through a tipping point unaware because it is quite possible that nothing significant will happen at first.
The global map of fires, detected as a result of operational satellite-based monitoring in now being tested in beta-mode on the SFMS service "Kosmosnimki - Fires". Now the updated information about fire situation in any region of our plant is available. This was made possible due to the integration of the FIRMS information system data (The Fire Information for Resource Management System). Earlier only the fire situation in Russia and some adjacent territories was displayed on the portal, which are within the footprint of the network of UniScan ground stations of ScanEx RDC.
The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources has developed an interactive, web-based map enabling users to track progress of gypsy moth spraying operations across the state.
