Nokia today announced that its Location & Commerce business has updated the NAVTEQ® Map for the UK, Poland and Ukraine to help sports fans travelling to the major European events this summer - and Garmin has incorporated this latest data for all its new PNDs. People attending the summer games and the European football tournament will not only benefit from accurate driving and pedestrian guidance to and from venues, but also the latest information on accommodation, dining and entertainment.
New content in Poland and the Ukraine now features the highest level of NAVTEQ® Map coverage in all 21 cities hosting the European football tournament plus updated Hotspots such as motorways and connector roads opening immediately before the event. The inclusion of names in over 20 languages will also facilitate navigation along with in excess of 150,000 new points of interest featuring key locations such as entrance gates and ticket counters.
“Over 10 million visitors will attend the summer games and the football tournament. Our aim is to enable everyone attending to have the latest points of interest and to have the most hassle-free experience getting there” commented Clive Taylor, Director Product & Marketing at Garmin. “Through the combination of our varied Garmin devices with comprehensive NAVTEQ® Maps and content, we can offer travellers to these events an optimum navigation experience all the way to the venue gates.”
In London over 980 kilometres of pedestrian walkways have been added along with an additional 27 square kilometres of NAVTEQ Discover Cities coverage; 55 3D Landmarks; 140 square kilometres of 3D City Model and 40 square kilometres of Enhance City Model. 20,000 new points of interests have also been included, 45 of which are temporary venues or public screening locations dedicated to the 2012 summer games.
“Garmin had big ambitions in supporting these games with a great navigation experience, particularly for visitors traveling to these cities for the first time. To fulfill Garmin’s expectations, we were able to provide truly localised, fresh content and visual guidance products to help them deliver the best possible experience in car and for pedestrian guidance,” added Bruno Bourguet, Vice President, Sales & Business Development, EMEA, Nokia Location & Commerce.
The updated and extended NAVTEQ® Map and content is now available on all new Garmin PNDs or as updates for those Garmin customers with existing pan-European or Eastern Europe map coverage.
