Arctic Ice Set for Record-Breaking Summer Melt

The Arctic ice cap is on course for a record-breaking melt session following a summer of unstable conditions, says the National Snow and Ice Data Center. “The numbers are coming in and we are looking at them with a sense of amazement,” the center’s director Mark Serrez said. “If the melt were to just suddenly stop today, we would be at the third lowest [ice level] in the satellite record.
