ATK Joins Alliance for Earth Observations

As the nation and world develop strategies to respond to precipitation changes and potential worsening and increased frequency of heat waves and drought forecast as a result of climate change, the environmental information derived from space-based satellites has become increasingly important.  The view of Earth from space enabled by Alliant Techsystems (ATK) — the newest member of the Alliance for Earth Observations — is vital to collecting the data decision-makers and policymakers need to cope with the challenges of climate change and transition to a green economy. Raising awareness of the importance of this information to users at the local, regional, national and international levels is a key mission of the Alliance, which welcomes ATK to its growing consortium of companies, institutions and organizations. The work of ATK — a lead supplier of satellite components and subsystems, as well as small satellites — and other private sector organizations is critical to developing new monitoring systems that will help maintain and enhance the flow of data required to mitigate and adapt to climate change, support the nation’s new energy approaches, and underpin national and international climate strategies.
