Alice Labs, based in the Netherlands, began in 2009 with an ambitious goal to create software to display, edit and render point clouds containing billions of individual points. In the first quarter of 2010 they reached their goal. Their secret: the Mirage gaming engine. The Mirage engine takes full advantage of the speed and memory of today’s graphics cards to power Studio Clouds. Studio Clouds was written, from the start, for 64-bit multi-core architecture. This allows the software to also take full advantage of system memory.

ENVI 4.4 is the latest edition of this popular image processing software from ITT Visual Information Solutions and builds upon the previous versions of this product. It is a complete image-processing system that includes spectral tools, geometric correction, terrain analysis and radar analysis while also incorporating strong GIS functionality for working with both raster and vector data. This version incorporates significant additions and benefits over previous versions due to its ability to work with a new ENVI Feature Extraction Module, Atmospheric Tools (FLAASH) and Digital Elevation Module (DEM) extraction. A new interoperable National Imagery Transmission Format (NITF) imagery format for enhanced data fusion is also included.

AutoCAD Map 3D 2008 is the latest version of the popular engineering GIS program available from Autodesk. This product has been continually refined over the year's with new functionality added each version. This is no exception for 2008 with several new features added to the program that bridge CAD / GIS integration possibilities. AutoCAD Map 3D has shifted in recent times to provide more value in terms of GIS functionality. Built upon the AutoCAD engine, this product is also a core member of a series of products forming a strong CAD-based foundation the company labels 'engineering GIS.'
